Overseas Vietnamese impresses in trial game with hat-trick
Vietnamese-American Lee Nguyen made his mark in emphatic fashion during a trial match for the Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) Football Club, scoring a hat-trick in a 5-1 win over Binh Dinh in Wednesday’s friendly match.

Coach Nguyen Van Vinh was “very pleased with Nguyen’s excellent performance. He’s not exceptionally strong, but he is technically skillful, creative and accurate. He is powerful enough with both legs and can get around an opponent wonderfully.
“He can play well in the position of a left winger or a striker. He can become a good playmaker who can launch dangerous attacks and create scoring chances. He can also score from a distance. One of the goals he scored was from a distance.”
Nguyen will return to his home town in the Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre for a few days and will then fly back to play for his club Randers in Denmark.
He can only play for HAGL in May next year when Denmark’s football season ends. If HAGL wants to have Nguyen earlier, they must negotiate with Randers.
Nguyen is eager to play for the local club. He said, “Playing for a local club in Vietnam’s top flight V-League is a dream come true for me. I hope everything will be ok.”
