In order for durian trees to bear fruit with high yields, selection is made of seedlings with clear origins and healthy growth free from pests or diseases. As a fruit of high economic value, the nurture process also requires a lot of caution and elaboration. HAGL employs a team of skilled, diligent technical staff on the plantations to ensure that prompt and complete nurture process is carried out. HAGL committed to harvesting no immature fruit and offering fruit that does not meet dryness standards.
Starting cultivation in 2018, the group now owns 1,500 hectares of durian, including 2 varieties known as Monthong and Musang King, two famous and delicious varieties of durian with deep golden flesh and small flat seeds, the most popular in the market today. The Group's durian is mainly grown in Laos and Vietnam where the plantation in the Bolaven plateau, Champasak province, southern Laos covering an area of 1,200 hectares, is the largest durian plantation in the world.
The Group's durian plantations in Gia Lai are harvested in August-September every year. In particular, 1,200 hectares in Laos are harvested in October-November. The selling price of durian off-season is likely to soar above that of the main season. If durian trees are carefully nurtured, they will be in blossom and bear fruit in the 4th year, reaching basic productivity in the 7th year. A mature tree produces 80-100 fruit whose weight is controlled between 2 and 5kg. The average yield of 25 - 30 tons per hectare, added with the off-season factor promises lucrative business.
HAGL engage staff to deal with the import and export of goods, including: Customs declaration documents when exporting durian and documents that need preparing for plant quarantine registration. Customers only need to place an order, then receive the goods at the destination port, saving time to do the procedures required.
Only fully ripe durians are exported to ensure the best taste for consumers. However the shorter shelf life of ripe durian represents challenges to transportation. HAGL follows the policy of direct sale to Chinese distributors. As Viet Nam shares its border with China, it is possible to curtail the shipping time from Vietnam and Laos to China
